Silence

"Hello? Hey? Can you hear me?"

No response.

"Can you help me? Anyone?"

Not a sound back.

No reaction.

Silence. Utter silence. I walked back and forth in a tiny space. Like a human pendulum, I repeated the same motion, the same set of questions. Every once in a while a stopped and listened.

The space was pitch black. I knew it now. I must have been in this constant motion for days. Months? Maybe even years?

"Anyone there?" Stop. Listen. The same again. I really strained my ears but I could just about hear the sound of no one giving a damn.

I opened my eyes.

"If you really need my help - and I think you need it - you must speak up."
